A video capturing a woman inexplicably floating down the Los Angeles River without a raft or tube has become a viral sensation, prompting astonishment and concern. Bystanders filmed the unusual scene, with one exclaiming, "There is no way this woman is in the water right now!"

The woman, responding to questions from onlookers, stated, "I’m floating! I’m getting carried… How are y’all doing today?"

The clip, which circulated widely on social media platforms like YouTube Shorts and Facebook, drew comparisons to the video game Grand Theft Auto, known for its depiction of a concrete river channel resembling the LA River. However, the reality of the waterway presents significant dangers.

Dangers of the LA River

The Los Angeles River is known to carry urban runoff laden with high levels of bacteria, trash, and chemical pollutants. Authorities strongly discourage swimming in the river due to these hazardous conditions. During periods of heavy rainfall and snowmelt, the river can transform from a small stream into a fast-moving torrent, further increasing the risks.

The LA River is full of raging brown water due to record high rains and snow.

Beyond the immediate physical dangers, the river's banks have also served as a secluded refuge for individuals experiencing homelessness seeking to evade city sidewalks and police patrols. These conditions have contributed to significant public concern regarding the safety and well-being of those who inhabit or frequent the river's vicinity.
