Woman's Body Discovered in Trash Can Near Brooklyn Beach
Police are investigating the death of an unidentified woman found in a parking lot off the Belt Parkway.
Authorities discovered the body of a woman inside a trash can in a parking lot near Plumb Beach in Brooklyn on Wednesday afternoon. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) responded to a 911 call around 3 p.m. at a location off the Belt Parkway and Knapp Street.
Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive woman in the trash can. Emergency medical services pronounced her dead at the scene. The identity of the woman has not yet been released.
Sources told ABC 7 that the body was found in a parking lot on a small peninsula near the beach, which is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area and a popular spot for windsurfers and kiteboarders.
Investigators were observed examining the trash can and collecting evidence. The medical examiner's office transported the woman's body from the scene Wednesday night.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. As of Wednesday night, no arrests have been made, and the NYPD's investigation is ongoing.
