Woman Rescued After More Than 24 Hours Adrift at Sea Following Cruise Ship Overboard Incident

A 44-year-old woman was rescued after spending more than 24 hours in the sea, having gone overboard from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. The El Salvadoran passenger was found conscious in the Ionian Sea near the Greek island of Zakynthos, according to the Hellenic Coast Guard.

Footage released by the Hellenic Coast Guard shows the moment of rescue, with officials pulling the woman to safety in the dark waters. She was subsequently taken to a local hospital for a medical examination.

It remains unclear how the passenger went overboard from the Odyssey of the Seas. The cruise had departed from Civitavecchia, Italy, on October 4 for a week-long voyage.

Royal Caribbean has not immediately responded to requests for comment. An investigation into the incident is underway.
