A woman was rescued on Saturday afternoon after falling approximately 40 feet from a bridge in Boyle Heights into the Los Angeles River. The incident occurred at approximately 1:24 p.m. near 2750 E. Washington Blvd., east of Soto Street.
First responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) found the adult woman, who was not in the water. LAFD Air Operations and Urban Search and Rescue crews were dispatched to the scene. Paramedics were lowered to the patient, provided medical evaluation, and then hoisted her to a waiting helicopter.

The woman was transported by air to a local hospital for further medical care. No firefighter injuries were reported during the operation. The Department of Transportation and the Los Angeles Police Department were also present to assist with traffic control.
The circumstances leading to the woman's fall remain unclear. This incident is not the first of its kind; in March 2023, a man fell from the Sixth Street Bridge and was carried more than three-quarters of a mile down the LA River before exiting the water. In that case, LAFD Air Operations also hoisted the individual to a trauma center.
