Woman Reports Rape at University of Chicago Fraternity Party; Witness Heard Chants Outside

A woman has reported being sexually assaulted in a fraternity bathroom at the University of Chicago. A witness reported hearing other individuals outside the bathroom chanting, “When’s my turn?” and “I want to go in there.”

The alleged incident occurred early Sunday during a party at the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity house. The woman, who is not a student at the university, was at the party with friends.

According to The New York Times, the woman’s friend, Mia Lara, 21, said they were dancing in the basement when the victim disappeared. Lara searched for her friend and found a group of men gathered outside a locked bathroom door. Inside the bathroom, Lara found her friend on the floor, undressed, with her underwear pulled down. The man involved allegedly had his hands on her wrists.

The victim reportedly yelled, “Make it stop” and “Get me out of here.” Lara confronted the man outside the fraternity house, who allegedly responded, “She wanted to.”

The University of Chicago confirmed it has identified a “person of interest” in the assault, who has since been banned from campus. Chicago police have not stated whether an arrest has been made.

This report follows recent allegations of a gang rape at Cornell University, where a group of students known as the “Cornell 7” faced accusations. The alleged assault at the University of Chicago occurred weeks after those events.
