A 45-year-old freelance journalist, Lynn Carratt, has shared her experience of weight loss following a challenging period with the weight-loss medication Mounjaro. Carratt, who battled her weight for years and was prediabetic at her heaviest of 207 pounds, found that while Mounjaro initially helped her lose 33 pounds, she experienced significant exhaustion and gallbladder inflammation. After stopping the medication, she regained over 14 pounds.
Seeking a sustainable approach, Carratt turned to nutritionist Emma Bardwell's "30g Plan." This plan focuses on consuming 30 grams of protein at each meal, 30 grams of fiber daily, and at least 30 different types of plants weekly. Carratt adopted this plan, despite not enjoying cooking, and found it manageable by preparing meals in advance and sticking to recipes that took 25 minutes or less.
Over six weeks, Carratt lost 12 pounds, but more significantly, she reported a substantial increase in energy levels and improved sleep quality. She noted that the plan helped her break her habit of unhealthy snacking and improved her digestion. The financial aspect also shifted, with her weekly food bill decreasing due to more mindful shopping and less reliance on convenient, pre-packaged foods.
Carratt's initial weight was 207 pounds with a BMI of 36. After six weeks on the 30g Plan, she reached 195 pounds. She emphasized that the lifestyle change provided her with energy to keep up with her four-year-old daughter and improved her overall mood and focus. While she aims to lose an additional 42 pounds, she feels she has developed sustainable eating habits.
The 30g Plan, developed by Bardwell to address her own midlife health issues, including menopause symptoms, emphasizes satiety through protein and fiber and supports gut health via plant diversity. The plan does not involve calorie counting or food restrictions. Bardwell has since compiled her approach into "The 30g Plan Cookbook" and offers resources for subscribers seeking similar results.
