Kelcie Reed, 24, was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court after admitting to being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, which led to the death of 19-year-old Morgan Dorsett. The fatal attack occurred in February 2025 at Reed's flat in south Bristol.
Dorsett, from Shrewsbury, died from neck injuries. Emergency services were called to the incident on Cobhorn Drive, Bishopsworth, but were unable to save her. A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death was bites to the neck and face.
The dog, named Prince, was sedated at the scene and subsequently euthanized, according to police. Judge Anna Richardson handed Reed an 18-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months. Reed will also be required to undergo mental health treatment.
During the proceedings, Reed appeared emotional. The judge acknowledged Reed's acceptance of responsibility, stating, "Rather than putting everyone through the additional trauma of a trial, you accepted responsibility." She added, "You are someone who has over the last 18 months done what they needed to do to try and move forward. You need to continue to do that."
