Woman Marries Husband After Four Weeks, Advises Daughter Against Rushing Into Marriage
Eilidh Dorgan reflects on her whirlwind romance and why she would prefer her daughter to take a more measured approach to finding a life partner.
For Eilidh Dorgan, the decision to marry her husband after just four weeks was a leap of faith that proved to be the right one. However, she now expresses reservations about her own daughter potentially following a similar path.
Dorgan met her husband, Sam, in November 2019. At the time, she was 31 and he was 43. She described the connection as immediate and certain, leading her to propose after a month of knowing him. Despite the initial confusion and surprise from her friends and family, who questioned the rapid pace of the relationship, they were ultimately supportive. Dorgan acknowledges that while her decision brought her happiness, she harbors concerns about a daughter of hers making such a swift commitment.
She explained that when she announced her engagement, the reactions were largely a mix of surprise and inquiries about the identity of her fiancé. "Not to mention, 'Who?'" she recalled.
Dorgan's perspective stems from her own experience, where she felt confident in her decision to marry quickly. This personal success, however, contrasts with her views on how her daughter might approach the same life event. She empathizes with the potential reactions her daughter might face and feels that a more cautious approach to marriage might be advisable for her.
"I know I was right to take that leap of faith," Dorgan stated, referring to her own engagement. "but this is why I wouldn't be happy if my daughter did the same."
