Woman Killed by Rogue Wave While Watching Sunrise With Husband

A woman has died after being swept off coastal rocks by a large wave while watching the sunrise with her husband in Ventura County, California.

Kaylee Molina, 30, was at Sycamore Cove with her husband, Roberto Clemente, 32, when the incident occurred on Wednesday. Clemente, who had been in a relationship with Molina for ten years, was also pulled into the ocean but managed to reach the shore and contact emergency services.

First responders pronounced Molina dead at the scene. Clemente was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. The Ventura County Sheriff's Office confirmed that emergency crews responded to a possible drowning incident around 11:40 a.m.

Clemente shared a series of photographs on social media that depicted the couple enjoying their time together shortly before the tragedy. The images showed them walking along the beach, drinking beer, and watching the sunrise. Other photos captured them hiking down to the secluded beach near Point Mugu. One image was taken near an underpass, where authorities indicated the couple had been sitting on the rocks.

Molina's family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses and memorial costs, describing the loss as a "heartbreak that words cannot fully express." They noted that Molina, born in July 1996, had "so much life ahead of her."

Clemente described the event as "fresh in my mind" and stated that he has been unable to sleep since the loss of his wife, best friend, and partner of 10 years. He added that the trip to California had turned into an unimaginable experience and that his "heart is completely shattered."

The incident occurred amid strong swells and heavy rainfall in Southern California, attributed to Hurricane Rachel. The region has experienced significant coastal impacts, with numerous homes in areas like Long Beach sustaining damage from the rough surf.
