A 52-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet in the arm on a Brooklyn street Monday afternoon, authorities reported. The incident occurred near the Glenwood Houses NYCHA complex in Flatlands around 1:10 p.m. Police confirmed the woman was an innocent bystander.
Three male suspects fled the scene on scooters after the gunfire, according to sources. First responders transported the victim to Brookdale Medical Center, where she was treated in stable condition. The shooting took place on Flatlands Avenue.
This latest incident follows two other bystander shootings in Brooklyn over the weekend. On Sunday morning, a mother of five, Sofronie Hartzog, was killed by a stray bullet during a large street brawl outside the Ooh La La Lounge near Bergen Street and Howard Avenue. The gunfire erupted around 2:23 a.m. when a fight broke out between approximately 100 individuals. Hartzog was struck in the back, and a 34-year-old man was hit in the abdomen; both were unintended targets, according to the NYPD.
Hartzog ran into the bar and collapsed in a restroom before being transported to Brookdale Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead from her injuries. Her aunt, Melinda Hartzog, described her niece as "the best person in the world," and a doting mother to her five children.
Despite these recent incidents, NYPD data for the 63rd precinct, which includes the Flatlands crime scene, shows a 60% decrease in shooting incidents year-to-date compared to the same period in 2025.
