Laura Kelly, 28, is embracing her unique appearance after years of concealing a rare skin condition. Born with congenital melanocytic naevus (CMN), a condition that results in moles, Kelly underwent 14 operations as a baby. She is now beginning to show her birthmarks more publicly, viewing her differences as a source of uniqueness rather than something to hide.

Kelly recently wore shorts outdoors for the first time during a warm spell, a significant milestone for someone who previously took extensive measures to cover her skin. "I have started to show myself off a bit more and embrace myself," she stated. "Being different is unique, and being unique is better than being perfect."

Her journey toward self-acceptance is ongoing. Kelly has set a personal goal of one day leaving the house without any makeup. Reflecting on her progress, she expressed pride in how far she has come and hopes her experience will encourage others with visible differences to embrace their appearance. "Gaining confidence doesn't happen overnight, by no means. It takes time and it's okay to feel self-conscious, it's okay to feel different," she said. "I never thought in a million years that I would walk out of the house with a pair of shorts on from I was like 13 or so, but now it does happen. And I'm proud of myself, I have to say."
