A woman has revealed she divorced her husband shortly after his prostate cancer diagnosis, stating that the illness exposed long-standing issues in their marriage.
She described the diagnosis as "the final straw" after years of enduring what she characterized as his "infuriating flaws." In an account published by the Daily Mail, the woman, whose name was not disclosed, explained that she did not want to replicate her own mother's marital experience.
"My husband's cancer was just the final straw," she stated. "It had exposed all the fault lines in our marriage, in particular how everything revolved around him while I was slowly being eclipsed."
The narrative details how the husband, identified as Malcolm, became preoccupied with his health following his diagnosis. "Mal became obsessed with tests and longevity, spending hours studying papers, finding specialists and second-guessing doctors," she recounted. She also expressed that her husband behaved as if her support during his illness was merely part of his marital contract, failing to consider the impact on her.
"It’s not that I didn’t want to support my husband," she added, "but he never once considered how it was affecting me."
