An inquest has heard that a 66-year-old mother collapsed and died in a GP's surgery after waiting several days for an appointment. Jaqueline Watkins, a mother of two, had been feeling unwell for several days and sought to see a doctor as soon as possible.
Llanyravon Surgery eventually booked Ms. Watkins for an appointment on June 18 at 3 p.m. She attended the appointment but collapsed while seated in the waiting room. Medical staff attempted to save her, but she was pronounced dead at the practice. The inquest opened this week in Newport.
No official cause of death has been determined, and the hearing has been adjourned until March of the following year to allow for further investigation. Ms. Watkins, a resident of Llanyravon, Cwmbran, Gwent, was a dog lover.
Her family has expressed concerns, stating that there were "missed opportunities" in the care provided and that they have "many unanswered questions about the advice and care given." Rose Farmer, Area Coroner for Gwent, confirmed that a post-mortem examination has been conducted.
In an online tribute, Ms. Watkins was remembered as a "lovely lady." Her daughter, Donna, shared that her mother had lived in Llanyravon her entire life and is survived by her partner of 26 years, Keith Berry, and a grieving family.
