A mother of two, Zoe Marie Dixon, 35, died in a hospital six days after being fatally wounded by her partner, Nathan Thomas, 39, who attacked her with a hammer in their home in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. The incident occurred in front of their two children, aged 16 and 10, who alerted authorities after Thomas fled the scene.
Thomas was found dead at Ponsticill Reservoir in the Brecon Beacons approximately four hours after the attack, which took place two weeks prior to Dixon's death. Dixon had been with Thomas since her teenage years, and sources indicate the couple were in the process of separating at the time of the incident.
Family members maintained a bedside vigil at the University Hospital of Wales, with initial signs suggesting Dixon might recover. However, she succumbed to her head injuries on Monday, leaving her two children orphaned. A GoFundMe page established to support relatives in caring for the children has raised over £1,430.
Friends described the situation as a "dreadful scenario" and expressed sympathy for the children who lost both parents. The case is being investigated as a domestic incident, and police are not seeking any other individuals in connection with the deaths.
South Wales Police confirmed that a woman was taken from the family home with serious injuries on June 16, and a man was found deceased in a reservoir on the same night. Inquests into the deaths are scheduled to be opened by the Glamorgan Coroner this week.
