A 35-year-old woman died of heatstroke while climbing Yr Wyddfa, also known as Snowdon, on July 10, an inquest has heard. Sophie Goodyer-Bird, from Birmingham, was descending the mountain when she became increasingly tired and then unresponsive.

Coroner Kate Robertson stated at Caernarfon Coroners' Court that emergency services were called to the scene and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but were unable to revive her. A provisional cause of death was given as exertional heat stroke.

The inquest was adjourned and a full hearing will be scheduled for a later date. Following her death, an online fundraiser was established to support her 12-year-old son.
