Woman Describes Alleged Rape by Russell Brand
A complainant testified that she felt she 'closed my eyes and tried not to be there' during an alleged sexual assault by comedian Russell Brand.
A woman who alleges she was raped by Russell Brand told police in a 2023 interview that she "closed my eyes and tried not to be there" during the alleged assault. The complainant testified that Brand, 51, grabbed her breasts and then dragged her into a flooded toilet at a London bar in 2004.
Brand faces seven charges at his trial: three counts of rape, three of sexual assault, and one of indecent assault. The allegations, stemming from six female complainants, span a period between 1999 and 2009. He denies all charges, stating any sexual contact was consensual.
The woman, who was in her 20s at the time of the alleged incident, told officers that after she initially resisted, Brand "unzipped himself" and orally raped her. She described the alleged assault as "swift" and left her in "disbelief and shock."
She recounted the encounter, which occurred at a birthday party in Soho, London. She stated that during a conversation about Brand's show "Big Brother's Big Mouth," he "literally just grabbed my boobs out of nowhere." Shortly after, she said he pulled her toward the toilets, stating, "Part of me was saying just get it over with so you can get out of here." After the alleged rape, she recalled Brand saying, "oh I guess we should swap numbers now."
The woman is the third complainant to testify and the second to allege rape in the ongoing trial, which is expected to last for six weeks. Brand has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
