Woman Denied Husband's Consent for Donor-Conceived Child Suffers Further Heartbreak
After finally achieving pregnancy at 42 with a donor egg, the author's husband withdrew his consent for the child, leading to a deeply traumatic experience.
A woman in her early 40s experienced profound emotional distress when her husband withdrew his consent for their child, conceived via an egg donor, shortly after her pregnancy was confirmed. The situation escalated when he insisted on a termination, a demand that left her feeling deeply betrayed.
"At 42, I finally got pregnant via an egg donor. Then my husband told me he didn't want the baby. What he did next cut even deeper," the author recounted in a personal essay published by the Daily Mail.
The couple, who met in 2015 and both worked in the antiques business, had developed a serious relationship that evolved into love. However, the joy of a long-awaited pregnancy turned into a source of immense pain when her husband's reaction to the news was one of outright rejection.
The author described her husband's reaction to the pregnancy as a "freak out" at the idea of a child not biologically connected to him. This led to a forced termination, an experience she found devastating.
She stated, "When I became pregnant via donor egg IVF, my husband freaked out at the idea of a child that wasn’t all 'ours', forcing me to undergo a termination."
Reflecting on the situation, she expressed lingering resentment towards her ex-partner, writing, "There are times when I think of my ex and the howling injustice. He can keep on reproducing until his final breath."
