Woman Defends Husband After Viral Baseball Game Clip Sparks Online Outrage
The woman at the center of a viral video defended her husband, stating that online commentary misrepresented their relationship and family dynamics, and revealed he received death threats.
A woman who gained viral attention after a video showed her husband appearing to ignore her struggle to manage a baby and concession food at a San Francisco Giants game has broken her silence to defend him.
The clip, captured during a game between the Giants and the Minnesota Twins at Oracle Park, showed the woman navigating her row with an infant in a carrier and multiple trays of food, while her husband remained seated. Social media users widely criticized the man for not assisting his partner, leading to the incident gaining millions of views and widespread condemnation.
However, the woman, identified as Erika, shared her perspective in an online blog post, explaining that the online narrative did not reflect reality. She stated that she and her husband, Ramses, initially found the broadcast amusing but were surprised as the clip spread and commentary intensified.
Erika clarified that she had offered to bring back food for them and that Ramses had offered to hold their daughter, Anastasia, which she declined. She recounted that upon her return, Ramses cleared her seat, greeted their daughter, and asked if she wanted to eat first, which she declined. She explained that her interaction with the person next to them was about their daughter, not a critique of her husband.
"I understand how it looked on television," Erika wrote. "But we could hear each other. The announcers and audience couldn’t."
She also revealed that the couple attended the game as a way to remember one of Ramses's close friends who had recently passed away, and that he was privately grieving and communicating with friends about their loss during the game.
Erika stated that both she and Ramses have received disturbing messages, including death threats directed at her husband. She appealed to those sending threats, emphasizing Ramses's role as a father and a loved one, and expressed concern for their children.
Despite the public backlash and hurtful comments, Erika described Ramses as having handled the attention with composure, while she found it more difficult, experiencing distress from comments about their marriage. She concluded by asserting that while she was called "mom of the year," the situation also brought assumptions about her marriage that are untrue, and that she manages these situations because of the support from her husband.
