Woman Cuts Ties With 18-Year Friend Over Post-Baby Scheduling Conflicts

A woman's decision to end an 18-year friendship after repeated scheduling issues with a new mother has ignited a debate online about friendship dynamics. KJ Freeman, 34, from Connecticut, shared her experience on TikTok, explaining that she felt her friend, whom she had known since she was 15, was using her newborn to create a "weird power dynamic."

Freeman recounted that her friend had recently returned to New York after living in Europe and having her first child. Initially, Freeman gave her friend space, understanding she needed time to settle in with the baby. However, a few weeks later, Freeman received a text from her friend inquiring about plans. Freeman offered to travel to her friend's location in Queens, but their initial attempt to meet at a museum was complicated when the friend revealed she had limited time due to other evening plans.

Freeman expressed frustration, stating that having a child should not halt the world for one person and that her own life should not be put on hold entirely to accommodate her friend's new circumstances. She highlighted that she had offered multiple scheduling opportunities, which were not utilized, and that the last-minute change to the museum plan, despite her travel from Connecticut, was a significant inconvenience.

A subsequent attempt to reschedule for the following Friday also faltered. Freeman stated she received no response to her confirmations on Thursday and Friday morning. After her friend later texted asking if she would be in the city, Freeman found the continued lack of direct communication to be the final straw.

"You're creating a dynamic that's weird and loaded," Freeman said in the viral video. "I don't care if you've been my friend since you were 15, once you start getting weird you're cut the f**k off."

She further elaborated that she did not want her friend to use her child to gain an advantage or assert dominance, asserting that childless individuals' lives and values are not lesser.

The TikTok video gained significant traction, with many viewers sharing similar experiences of friendships shifting or ending after a friend became a parent. Some commenters expressed understanding for Freeman's position, while others noted that busy mothers can still maintain friendships if they prioritize them. The discussion touched upon themes of emotional manipulation and the importance of respecting friends' time and efforts, regardless of life changes like parenthood.
