Woman Critically Injured in Brooklyn Jogging Attack

A 28-year-old woman is in critical condition after being stabbed multiple times in the neck while jogging along the Shore Parkway Greenway in Brooklyn on Friday night, the New York City Police Department confirmed.

The attack occurred around 8 p.m. near Shore Parkway and Bay 17th Street in the Bath Beach neighborhood. The woman was running eastbound when she was assaulted, police said.

Emergency medical services transported her to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn. Police have not released her identity and have not identified a suspect.

According to reports, the woman had been training for the upcoming New York City Marathon. New York Road Runners, the organization that oversees the marathon, released a statement expressing sympathy for the victim and her family.

"We were sad to hear of this horrible attack—our hearts are with her family and the running community," the organization said. "NYRR also said its records show the woman had previously participated in its races but could not confirm whether she planned to run in Sunday's marathon."

It remains unclear what led to the attack or if the victim knew her assailant. The incident took place along a waterfront path overlooking Gravesend Bay.

Police are asking for the public's assistance as the investigation continues. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip through the department's website. All tips remain confidential.
