Rebecca Hackett, 41, of Stockton, has been charged with murder and possession of a bladed article in connection with the death of 77-year-old Harry Heslop. The incident occurred at Cedar House, a supported living retirement home located on Foxwood Drive, Stockton, around 2:45 a.m. BST on Tuesday.
Hackett is scheduled to appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court. Cleveland Police confirmed that a second woman, aged 54, remains on bail as the investigation continues.
Detective Chief Inspector John Bonner stated that the police's thoughts are with Heslop's family and loved ones during this difficult time. He also expressed gratitude to the local community for their patience and support, noting that officers would maintain a presence in the area to provide reassurance.
Authorities have urged the public not to speculate about the case, as doing so could potentially prejudice legal proceedings. Thirteen Group, the housing association that manages Cedar House, conveyed its deep sadness regarding the incident.
