Woman Charged After Officer Shot in Nottingham
A 27-year-old woman faces firearm charges following an incident where a police officer was shot in Nottingham city centre.
A 27-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a shooting that left a police officer injured in Nottingham city centre over the weekend. Aisha Zaman, of Collison Street, Hyson Green, faces charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of that firearm with intent. She has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before Nottingham Magistrates' Court.
Zaman is one of seven individuals arrested in connection with the incident. The officer was shot in the foot in the early hours of Sunday morning. According to authorities, the officer had approached two people exhibiting suspicious behavior at a bus stop in the Radford area of the city centre around 4:50 a.m. when the shooting occurred. The injured officer received initial treatment outside a McDonald's before being transported to a hospital, where his condition was reported as stable.
A sawn-off shotgun was recovered at the scene, located on one of Nottingham's busy streets near the city's council building. In addition to Zaman, two men, aged 24 and 30, and two women, aged 25 and 21, have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Further arrests include a 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, both detained on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and assisting an offender. Both remain in police custody.
Detective Chief Superintendent Rich Bull, who is leading the investigation, expressed gratitude for public support for the injured officer. "We continue to support him as he undergoes further treatment in hospital and are keeping him and his family fully informed of the developments in this investigation," Bull stated. "He has asked for privacy during this incredibly difficult time."
Bull added, "We have now charged a 27-year-old woman in connection with this incident. We hope this offers the public some reassurance. Our investigation team are still following a number of lines of inquiry to ensure those responsible are arrested, charged, and put before the courts."
