A woman was arrested on an American Airlines flight upon its arrival at Miami International Airport on Friday after allegedly undressing and engaging in indecent acts in front of other passengers. The incident occurred on Flight 1779, which had departed from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
According to a report citing an Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) message, the lead flight attendant alerted American Airlines' Integrated Operations Center that a passenger in seat 9D had become undressed and was performing indecent acts. The message recommended that law enforcement be requested. Officers were present at the gate when the plane landed and took the passenger into custody.
Flight attendants have the authority to restrain passengers who pose a threat to others' safety, though it remains unclear if such measures were taken in this instance. American Airlines has been contacted for comment.
This event follows another disruptive incident on an American Airlines flight just days earlier. On September 6, a passenger named Layne Arthur Lundeen, 67, was taken into custody after allegedly engaging in a homophobic and racist rant on a flight from Dallas to Newark. Witnesses reported that Lundeen appeared intoxicated and began yelling at a fellow passenger. When a flight attendant intervened, Lundeen allegedly used racial slurs and made homophobic remarks. The situation escalated when Lundeen reportedly pushed a female passenger and then attempted to bite two male passengers who intervened. Fellow passengers used duct tape to restrain Lundeen to his seat until law enforcement could take him into custody upon arrival. American Airlines confirmed the flight was diverted due to a 'disruptive customer' and stated that the safety of its customers and team members is a top priority, with no tolerance for violence.
