A woman identified as a "crime junkie" was arrested for allegedly filming jurors exiting the courthouse during the high-profile trial of Lindsay Clancy, who is accused of murdering her three children. The suspect, Dawn Light, 56, pleaded not guilty to aggravated intimidation of a juror.
Prosecutors allege that Light drove into a restricted area of the court premises and filmed jurors as they left for the day. Prosecutor Nicole Piacentini stated that Light's actions put the "sanctity of the judicial system at risk." Piacentini claimed that while Light initially asserted she was not filming jurors but rather waiting to see if Clancy would emerge, a deleted video of jurors was found on her phone by law enforcement.
Light, a retired nurse, told CT Insider on Wednesday that she is a "crime junkie" and a supporter of Clancy. She faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted, the same potential sentence Clancy could receive if found guilty of murder.
Light's defense attorney, Jennifer White, argued that the situation was a "complete misunderstanding" and that her client intended only to photograph Ms. Clancy, not interact with the jurors. "She understands the magnitude and seriousness of this charge," White told the court.
Judge Shelby M. Smith did not set bail for Light but ordered her to stay away from the courthouse, witnesses, and jurors. She is permitted to return only for future court hearings. Light is scheduled to appear in court again on Oct. 15.
The trial of Lindsay Clancy has been ongoing for six weeks. Jurors have been engaged in deliberations.
