A dispute between two women on a New York City subway platform culminated in one allegedly using a knife to slash the other during the Thursday morning commute. The incident occurred at the Jay Street-MetroTech station in downtown Brooklyn.
Authorities reported that around 9:40 a.m., the victim, a 44-year-old woman, had just exited an R train when an argument broke out with Jahlayah Blondel, 26. According to police and sources, Blondel, who was a stranger to the victim, allegedly produced a knife and cut the victim on her left shoulder.
The injured woman was transported to NYU Langone Health—Cobble Hill for treatment of minor injuries and was reported in stable condition. Blondel, a resident of Staten Island, initially fled the scene and discarded the weapon. However, she surrendered to authorities approximately 30 minutes later at the NYPD’s Transit District 30 headquarters.
Blondel has been charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and tampering with evidence. Police stated she has no prior arrests in New York City.
This incident followed another stabbing in the subway system just over 12 hours prior. On Wednesday evening, a 17-year-old boy was reportedly slashed with a box cutter at the West 135th Street subway station in Harlem. The victim sustained a laceration to his left wrist during an altercation with a group of teenagers on the B and C train platform. He was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he is in stable condition. The suspects in that case remain at large.
