Woman Appears in Court in Nottingham Shooting Case

Aisha Zaman, 27, has appeared in court charged in connection with the shooting of a police officer in Nottingham city center. The officer, PC Lee Lane, sustained a gunshot wound to his foot early Sunday morning after approaching two individuals acting suspiciously at a bus stop.

Zaman was arrested Sunday evening when a vehicle was stopped in the Radford area of the city. She has been charged with possession of a prohibited firearm, specifically a shotgun, and possession of that firearm with intent to commit an indictable offense. She faces no charges directly related to the discharge of the firearm or the injury to the officer.

During a court hearing at Nottingham Magistrates' Court, Zaman confirmed her name, address, and date of birth. She did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody. She is scheduled to appear again at Nottingham Crown Court on November 11.

PC Lane remains in hospital, where he is believed to have undergone surgery. Nottingham police and crime commissioner Gary Godden stated that the officer's injuries are "most likely to be life-altering."

A sawn-off shotgun was recovered at the scene, on Angel Row, yards from the city's Old Market Square. Several other arrests have been made in connection with the incident. A 24-year-old man and two women, aged 25 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and have been released on conditional bail. A 30-year-old man arrested in Bedfordshire was questioned on suspicion of assisting an offender and has since been recalled to prison for breaching his license. Additionally, a 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and assisting an offender; they remain in police custody.

Detective Chief Superintendent Rich Bull, leading the investigation, expressed gratitude for the public's support and confirmed that the investigation team is pursuing multiple lines of inquiry to apprehend all responsible parties. Anyone with information is urged to contact Nottinghamshire Police or Crimestoppers.
