Woman and 2-Year-Old Daughter Found Dead Near Atlanta Church

Cobb County police are investigating the deaths of a woman and her two-year-old daughter, who were found shot near Milford Baptist Church on Sunday morning. Officers responded to the church at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, shortly before services were scheduled to begin.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered the bodies of the mother and child, who were pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not yet released their identities or further details regarding the circumstances of their deaths. The investigation is ongoing.

Clarence Howard, the pastor at Milford Baptist Church, described the incident as a "heartbreaking tragedy." He stated that the church had been assisting the woman and her child. "This is a reminder of how complicated life can become when people are faced with overwhelming situations," Howard said, asking for prayers for all affected.

Jessica Veasley, a member of the church and a colleague of the mother, told WSB-TV that the woman's health had been deteriorating. Veasley, who met the mother through a church program for single mothers, expressed her grief, saying, "She was innocent. She was an innocent kid. I just don't understand."

Veasley added, "It was so hurtful. It's hurtful, and it's sad. The child was... she was so amazing."
