Woman Accused in Rihanna Home Shooting Declared Mentally Fit for Trial

A judge has ruled that a woman accused of firing shots at the Los Angeles home of Rihanna and A$AP Rocky is mentally competent to stand trial. Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 36, of Orlando, Florida, faces multiple felony charges stemming from the March incident.

During a brief hearing in Los Angeles County court on Tuesday, Judge Maria Cavalluzzi accepted the findings of psychiatric evaluations that determined Ortiz is fit to proceed with the legal process. Her competency ruling had previously suspended the court proceedings.

Ortiz has pleaded not guilty to charges including attempted murder, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and shooting at an occupied vehicle or dwelling. Police allege that on March 8, Ortiz drove a Tesla to the property, produced an AR-15 style rifle, and fired at least 20 rounds toward the house and a neighboring residence. Bullets struck a trailer where Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were present, as well as the exterior wall of a second-floor nursery occupied by the couple's children and their nanny. No one was injured in the shooting.

Authorities stated that following her arrest the same day, Ortiz told investigators, "I wasn't attempting murder." She is charged with 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, one for each person on the two properties, and three counts of shooting at an occupied vehicle or dwelling.

Court documents detailing the mental evaluations have been sealed. Ortiz has been returned to the regular criminal court process and is scheduled for a further hearing on Wednesday. Attorneys for both the prosecution and defense declined to comment outside the courthouse.

Public records indicate Ortiz had no prior police record and had been a licensed speech pathologist for over a decade. Law enforcement has not publicly disclosed a motive for the incident or any connection between Ortiz and the entertainers.
