Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud directed a pro-trans message to social media on Sunday night following a heated altercation with former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom during the team’s loss to the Indiana Fever. The incident occurred in the third quarter when Cloud scored a basket, prompting the Fever to call a timeout. Cloud's emotions were directed toward Freedom, who was seated courtside near the basket at the Wintrust Arena.
Freedom rose from his seat and approached Cloud, leading to Chicago Sky players and arena security intervening to separate the two individuals. It remains unclear what was said during the verbal exchange, but Freedom was escorted from the arena and did not return for the remainder of the game.
Cloud did not address the media following the game. Instead, she posted a statement on the social media platform Threads, expressing her support for the transgender community. "To every trans kid/person, You are apart of MY community & tribe. You belong. You’re loved. You’re seen. You’re perfect as you are. & you will always be protected by me," Cloud wrote.
Cloud's message appeared to be a response to Freedom, who had announced intentions to attend WNBA games amid ongoing discussions about transgender athletes in women's sports. Freedom was observed wearing a T-shirt printed with the definition of a woman as "adult human female."
Freedom had arrived at the game earlier in the day and was reportedly met with criticism from some WNBA fans upon entering the arena. Following the altercation, Freedom posted on X, formerly Twitter, stating, "I just got kicked out of a @WNBA game for supporting WOMEN! Let that sink in, AMERICA!" He also posted, "It’s always women hating on other women."
