WNBA Finals Celebration May Be Moved to Practice Court Amid Scheduling Conflicts
Potential venue change for championship celebrations arises due to overlapping NBA and WNBA games.

The celebration for the next WNBA champion could be relegated to a practice court if the Finals conclude in Game 6, due to a scheduling conflict with an NBA game at the same arena. The series is currently tied 2-2 between the Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream, with Game 5 set for Monday.
If either the Valkyries or the Dream win Game 5, they would have the opportunity to clinch the championship in Game 6. However, Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at Atlanta's State Farm Arena, which is also slated to host an NBA game between the Hawks and the Cavaliers later that evening. This close proximity in scheduling raises concerns about the WNBA champions having adequate time for on-court celebrations before the arena must be prepared for the NBA event.
The possibility of moving the post-game celebration to a practice facility has emerged as teams and league officials navigate the tight turnaround. The Dream had previously explored options to play in larger venues than their home arena, the Gateway Center Arena, which has a seating capacity of 3,500. While alternative venues like Georgia Tech’s McCamish Pavilion and the Gas South Arena in Duluth were considered, neither arrangement materialized.
Atlanta's NBA team, the Hawks, have made accommodations, including rescheduling Thursday's NBA game to an 8 p.m. tip-off to provide more buffer time. Despite these efforts, the potential for a truncated or relocated celebration for the WNBA champions remains a possibility should the series extend to six games.
