WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert is slated to retire at the end of the calendar year, the league announced Friday.
Engelbert, 61, was appointed the WNBA's first commissioner in 2019. During her tenure, she has overseen the league's expansion efforts, growth in revenue, and new television deals.
However, Engelbert also faced criticism regarding the WNBA's management of high-profile players and significant incidents, particularly during contentious Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations in 2025.
Before her role in the WNBA, Engelbert began her career at Deloitte in 1986, where she eventually became the first female CEO of the multinational accounting firm.
