Wladimir Klitschko, the ex-fiancé of the late actress Hayden Panettiere, has alleged in a new legal filing that a "non-family member" previously connected to Panettiere pawned some of her jewelry. The filing, obtained by The Daily Mail, states that the pawn shop has declined to disclose specific item information without law enforcement involvement.
Panettiere died on August 16 at age 36 from the "toxic effects" of multiple drugs, including fentanyl, an accidental overdose, according to the Greenville County Coroner's Office. She is survived by her daughter, Kaya, 11, whom she had with Klitschko during their nine-year relationship.
Klitschko filed a petition in Los Angeles last month to become the temporary guardian of his daughter's estate, aiming to protect Kaya's inheritance as the sole beneficiary of Panettiere's reported $6 million estate. He claimed in the initial filing that some of Panettiere's personal property, including jewelry, had disappeared.
The October 5 filing further asserts that there is a "real and continuing risk" that any remaining items belonging to Panettiere could be sold or transferred if not recovered. Klitschko has requested that his guardianship include the power to authorize law enforcement investigations into the recovery of Panettiere's property believed to have been misappropriated.
Legal documents indicate that before Panettiere's death, additional security measures were implemented at her home due to an individual who had "gained unauthorized access to Hayden's property." Locks were changed, and storage units containing designer clothing and accessories were relocated as a precaution. Despite these measures, the petition states it is expected that the individual will continue to attempt to misappropriate property from Panettiere's estate.
Klitschko also alleges that federal agents accessed Panettiere's home as part of an ongoing investigation and removed some of her property. He has stressed the urgency of his immediate appointment as Temporary Guardian of Kaya's Estate to enable him to file Panettiere's probate petition and nominate a proposed administrator. Without this appointment, he warned, there is a high probability that property belonging to the estate could be lost or dissipated.
Panettiere and Klitschko were together from 2009 to 2011, rekindled their relationship in 2013, and became engaged later that year. They welcomed Kaya in December 2014 but split again in 2018. That same year, Panettiere relinquished full custody of Kaya to Klitschko amid her struggles with postpartum depression and addiction, and Klitschko moved their daughter to Ukraine.
Panettiere, known for her roles as Claire Bennet in the NBC series "Heroes" and Juliette Barnes in the ABC show "Nashville," had a career that began in childhood. She also appeared in films such as "Remember the Titans," "A Bug's Life," "Bring It On: All or Nothing," and the "Scream" franchise.
