A Wisconsin woman was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly stealing a fire department pickup truck and taking it for a joyride, during which she announced her presence over the department's radio. Police found Emily Fair, 36, naked in the driver's seat of the stolen vehicle just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday.
Fair could be heard on the fire department radio, initially mumbling incoherently before clearly asking, "I’m hungry, you got food in there?" Hours later, authorities located the truck at a Department of Public Works garage. Bodycam footage captured the moment an officer approached the vehicle as Fair backed it up, shouting for her to stop. Upon ordering her out, the officer discovered Fair was nude inside the truck.
When questioned by the officer, Fair denied drinking alcohol and falsely claimed to be a firefighter. She stated she was "supposed to meet someone" and "authorized" to take the truck, though the officer expressed doubt. Surveillance video reportedly showed Fair entering the pickup, activating its emergency lights, and driving away from the station. Authorities later found Fair's dress inside the vehicle.
Fair was taken for a medical evaluation before being taken into custody. She faces a felony charge for taking and driving a vehicle without the owner's consent. A judge has ordered a competency hearing for Fair on August 26. If convicted, she could face up to six years in prison or a $10,000 fine.
Court documents indicate Fair has a history of legal issues. On June 15, she was arrested on charges including possession of marijuana, disorderly conduct, and resisting an officer. She faced similar charges on April 16 and, in August 2020, was arrested on two counts for allegedly violating an emergency management order.
