A 17-year-old Wisconsin high school football player died on Saturday from injuries sustained during a game the previous Thursday, the school district announced.
Adam Massman, a senior quarterback at Lincoln Junior/Senior High School in Alma Center, Wisconsin, suffered the injuries during a game against Turtle Lake. Specific details about the injury have not been released, but his mother, Brianne Massman, stated he experienced a helmet-to-helmet collision.
On-site EMTs attended to Massman before he was transported to the hospital, where he died two days later, according to a message from school district superintendent Drew Semingson.
Massman, who also participated in baseball, basketball, and golf, was described in his obituary as "strong and spirited, yet quiet by nature." His family noted his enjoyment of working with animals, attending cattle shows, and spending time with his brother. He won the Bred and Owned (homegrown) Beef Steer at the Wisconsin State Fair in 2025.
In his final season as quarterback, Massman recorded 1,138 total yards, with 858 passing yards and 10 touchdowns, and 280 rushing yards with three scores. He also had one interception and 12 tackles. On the baseball field, he batted .268 across 13 games. He earned 2025 WBCA Boys Basketball Academic All-State honors.
His teammates honored him by painting his parking spot with the inscription "LLA," for "Long Live Adam," along with depictions of his family's cattle operation and tire tracks.
A funeral service was scheduled for Saturday at the high school. His mother expressed gratitude for the community's support, urging people to continue coming together, not just in tragedy.
