A Republican congressman from Wisconsin was forced to swim to safety after the aircraft he was traveling in made an emergency landing in Lake Wausau on Saturday. U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany stated that he and the pilot lost power as they approached Wausau Downtown Airport on their return from the La Crosse County Lincoln Day Dinner.
The pilot initiated an emergency landing on the lake. According to Tiffany's post on X, once the plane came to a stop, he and the pilot exited the aircraft and swam to a shallow area. They then awaited the arrival of emergency responders, who reached them by boat. Both Tiffany and the pilot were transported to a nearby hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries.
The aircraft was a single-engine, four-seat Bonanza. Tiffany is currently running for governor on the Republican ticket in Wisconsin.
