Winston's Struggles Undermine Giants After Dart's Injury

New York Giants backup quarterback Jameis Winston struggled in his team's 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night, throwing for 111 yards and an interception after starter Jaxson Dart suffered a knee injury early in the game. Winston completed 11 of 27 passes, with his performance leading to a total of 182 offensive yards and 11 first downs for the Giants.

Dart was injured on the Giants' first possession, prompting Winston's unexpected entry into the game. Despite the team's preseason positioning to succeed even without their starting quarterback, Winston's play suggested a lack of preparedness. He completed only one of his first six passes for one yard and struggled with pressure, frequently sailing throws.

On Winston's initial drive, a badly overthrown pass to Devin Singletary prevented the Giants from reaching field goal range, leading to a punt. The offense then went three-and-out after two incompletions from Winston. Trailing 14-0 midway through the second quarter, the Giants drove into Rams territory, but Winston threw an interception directly to Rams defensive back Trent McDuffie.

Late in the first half, after a fumble recovery gave the Giants possession at the Rams' 11-yard line, the team opted for three consecutive runs, settling for a field goal. The offense continued to struggle in the second half, gaining only 30 yards on its first three possessions. Winston, who signed a two-year contract extension earlier this month, holds a career record of 36-53 as a starter. Last season, he started two games for the Giants, completing 56.1% of his passes for 567 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
