Winston Leads Giants' Late Comeback in 27-27 Tie with Commanders

Jameis Winston orchestrated a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback for the New York Giants, throwing for 326 yards and three touchdowns in a 27-27 tie with the Washington Commanders.

The Giants, who had largely relied on a run-oriented game plan, turned to Winston, who completed 33 of 54 passes. His efforts in the final quarter helped erase a 14-point deficit, salvaging a tie in a game that appeared headed for a loss.

Despite Winston's heroics, the Giants faced other challenges. Running back Cam Skattebo fumbled as the team was in position for a potential game-winning field goal. This marked his fourth fumble of the season, with one lost.

On the final play of the game, Kayvon Thibodeaux's pressure on Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels forced Daniels to scramble, preventing a potential game-tying throw. The clock expired before the Commanders could attempt a field goal.

Historically, the Giants have struggled in similar situations. Prior to this game, they had lost 230 consecutive games since 1970 when trailing by 14 or more points in the final eight minutes of regulation. Their record now stands at 0-230-1 in such scenarios.

Giants coach John Harbaugh expressed a mixed sentiment following the game, stating, “Happy it wasn’t a loss. Sad it wasn’t a win.”
