Will Smith Hits Clutch Double for Dodgers Days After Welcoming Third Child
The catcher delivered a two-run double in the sixth inning of NLCS Game 3, giving his team a crucial lead.
Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith provided a significant boost to his team's National League Championship Series hopes, delivering a bases-loaded, two-run double in the sixth inning of Game 3 against the Milwaukee Brewers. The clutch hit came just days after Smith and his wife, Cara, welcomed their third child.
Smith's double, which landed off the center field wall, scored Teoscar Hernandez and Kyle Tucker, breaking a 1-1 tie and giving the Dodgers their first lead of the game. Shohei Ohtani, who had walked to load the bases, slid into third base on the play.
The Brewers pulled pitcher Abner Uribe following the hit, bringing in DL Hall. Uribe had struggled in the inning, walking three of the four batters he faced before Smith's at-bat.
Earlier in the game, the Dodgers had fallen behind on the opening pitch when Jackson Chourio hit a leadoff home run. The Dodgers had made strategic substitutions prior to Smith's at-bat, including pinch-hitting Max Muncy for Andy Pages and Kike Hernandez for Josue De Paula.
