Will Scharf has been appointed as White House Counsel, a significant role in the upcoming administration, bringing a history of advocacy for former President Donald Trump. Scharf previously served as an at-large commissioner to the National Capital Planning Commission, where he played a role in advancing Trump's plans for a controversial White House ballroom.
During his tenure on the commission, Scharf defended the project, which involved the demolition of the East Wing of the White House, against widespread criticism. He argued in April that historical changes to the White House were often met with condemnation in their time. Trump appointed Scharf to the commission in July 2025, alongside several other administration members, as oversight of renovations to the Federal Reserve building was initiated.
Scharf ran in the Republican primary for a congressional seat, stating in a candidate survey that "fighting for President Trump" was a primary goal. However, he lost the primary to Bailey, securing 37% of the vote.
