Will Levis Signs with New York Jets Practice Squad
Quarterback Will Levis, recently released by the Tennessee Titans, has found a new opportunity with the New York Jets.
The New York Jets are signing quarterback Will Levis to their practice squad, the team announced Tuesday. Levis, 27, was released by the Tennessee Titans in August after a turbulent tenure that began with him sliding out of the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, ultimately being selected 33rd overall.
Levis's time in Nashville was marked by a mix of on-field struggles and personal challenges. After becoming the Titans' starter midway through his rookie season and then again in 2024, he missed the entire 2025 season due to shoulder surgery. The franchise subsequently moved on by drafting Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick.
Online commentary has often focused on Levis's ball security issues and occasional struggles, alongside personal turbulence stemming from an intimate tape leak involving his ex-girlfriend, Gia Duddy, during his rookie year. Levis entered the current year's training camp competing for the backup job with Mitch Trubisky but did not make the Titans' 53-man roster.
The Jets' decision to sign Levis follows a workout at their facility earlier this month. He is expected to fill the role of third-choice quarterback behind Geno Smith and Cade Klubnik, a fourth-round pick from Clemson who has secured the primary backup position. The Jets had intended to bring back quarterback Brady Cook for their practice squad, but he was claimed by the Miami Dolphins on waivers.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn expressed confidence in Klubnik's readiness as the backup, stating, "He's our backup quarterback... There's just a confidence in how he operates and what he's done in practice, what he's done in the games." Glenn acknowledged that Klubnik, as a rookie, would face challenges but highlighted his intelligence and continued improvement.
Levis's NFL journey began with significant anticipation in the 2023 draft, where he was projected as a potential No. 1 overall pick but ultimately fell to the Titans at 33. This slide meant missing out on a lucrative fifth-year option, shortening his team control window. On the field, Levis recorded 16 interceptions across 21 starts in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Off the field, his relationship with college sweetheart Gia Duddy ended, and an intimate video involving them was leaked in May 2024.
