Will Grier, a quarterback who played two NFL games, announced his retirement from professional football on Wednesday at the age of 31. Grier made the announcement on his social media, and the Carolina Panthers subsequently published a news story detailing his decision.

He had signed with the Panthers in April. Reports also indicated that Grier had received a coaching opportunity with the Dallas Cowboys but ultimately chose to step away from the sport entirely.

Upon his announcement, Grier shared messages of support on his Instagram Stories from NFL players including Dak Prescott and Kenny Pickett, as well as Jake Ferguson. Prescott posted, "Never retired, just switching lanes. Congrats my brother."

The Panthers drafted Grier in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He played college football for both the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Florida Gators. During his NFL career, Grier also spent time with the Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers, and Philadelphia Eagles. He appeared in two games, both with the Panthers during his rookie season, accumulating 228 passing yards and four interceptions.

The Panthers' quarterback roster for the upcoming season now includes Bryce Young, Haynes King, and Pickett.
