Houston Texans edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. stated that his offseason workouts with Los Angeles Rams star Myles Garrett have been invaluable. Anderson described Garrett as a "big brother" figure, providing guidance on work ethic, body maintenance, diet, and preparation for the season.
This marks Anderson's second offseason training with Garrett, an experience he called "once-in-a-lifetime." Anderson, who has been in the league for a similar duration as the Rams' 27-year-old edge rusher Kobie Turner, and slightly longer than interior lineman Braden Fiske, sees Garrett as a crucial resource for young defensive players.
Anderson himself recently secured a three-year, $150 million contract extension after achieving double-digit sacks in consecutive seasons. Turner is in the final year of his contract, and Fiske has two years remaining. The advice from Garrett could be particularly impactful for Turner as he aims for a similar payday.
Turner will have the opportunity to learn from Garrett not just during offseason workouts, but also throughout the upcoming season, as they will be lining up on opposite sides of the defensive line for the Rams. Over the past three seasons, Turner has become a key contributor on the Rams' defensive line, recording nine sacks in his rookie year, eight the following season, and seven last year.
With opposing teams forced to focus on schemes against Garrett and potentially Aaron Donald, who is considering retirement, Turner is positioned for a potentially breakout season that could lead to a significant contract. Turner has been observing Garrett closely during training camp, noting that Garrett "can do things no one else can."
