Wife Recounts Realizing Husband Brought Someone Else Into Bedroom During Sex
A woman told a court she felt a stranger's hand during a sexual encounter with her husband, prompting her to lock herself in a bathroom.
A woman told Winchester Crown Court that she realized her then-husband had allowed another person into the bedroom while she was blindfolded and engaged in sexual activity with him. The woman, Joanne Young, stated in a police interview that she felt a hand on her wrist that she did not believe belonged to her ex-husband, Philip Young.
Philip Young has admitted to drugging and raping his wife. According to Joanne Young, her husband later apologized and explained that he had invited someone to watch them have sex after browsing online forums. Four men, alleged to have been recruited by Philip Young to abuse his wife, are now on trial.
The incident in question occurred in February 2023, following a night out. Joanne Young described to police that at some point after her husband came upstairs, she had a blindfold on and was restrained. Upon feeling the unfamiliar hand, she removed the blindfold and heard her husband tell someone to "get down." She then saw someone ducking at the end of the bed and fled to the bathroom, locking the door.
Joanne Young recounted that her vision was impaired as she was not wearing her glasses or contact lenses, but she noticed an unfamiliar car outside after leaving the bathroom. She also stated that during a later conversation about the incident, her ex-husband cried, which she said was the first time she had ever seen him do so. She questioned him about whether he had previously invited others to watch them have sex, a suggestion he denied.
Philip Young, a former Conservative Swindon councillor, has pleaded guilty to numerous charges. These include 14 counts of voyeurism, 11 counts of rape, 11 of administering a substance with intent, seven of assault by penetration, four of sexual assault, and one of publishing an obscene article. He also admitted to publishing over 500 intimate images and videos of his ex-wife and recording her private acts without consent between 2010 and 2024.
The four men currently on trial are accused of various sexual offenses against Joanne Young, which they deny. Connor Sanderson-Doyle denies sexual assault and sexual touching related to a 2016 incident. Norman Macksoni denies one count of rape from 2017. Richard Wilkins has pleaded not guilty to one count of rape and one of assault by penetration in 2016. Mohammed Hassan denies one count of sexual touching in 2023.
A sixth defendant, Dean Hamilton, has admitted to charges including assault by penetration, sexual assault, and rape. Philip Young and Hamilton are scheduled to be sentenced following the conclusion of the trial, which is expected to last up to four weeks.
