The widow of a van driver killed in a recent Amazon cargo plane crash has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the online retailer, its cargo division, the plane's operator, and the two pilots.
Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, 53, was killed on September 6 when Amazon Air Flight 7598 overshot the runway at Miami International Airport. The crash resulted in the deaths of Naranjo and four others, and injured five people. The aircraft subsequently crashed onto a nearby road.
Naranjo's wife, Yaraisi Santiso Morejon, has filed suit against Amazon, Inc., Amazon Air Cargo, 21 Air LLC, and related entities involved in operating the plane. The lawsuit also names the aircraft's lessors and pilots Joseph Carroll and Jaime Felipe Silva Molina.
The complaint cites multiple alleged failures, including pilot error, inadequate training, and the use of a 32-year-old aircraft. "This disaster was not an unavoidable accident," the complaint states. "It was the foreseeable and preventable result of multiple, concurrent failures."
The five victims were identified as Rolando Aleman, 55; Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, 53; Julio C Pineda, 75; Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53; and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo, 47. The victims were all inside a van owned by Professional Ocean Service Corp, a contract cleaning company for airline companies.
The aircraft reportedly crashed through a fence and onto a street, destroying an SUV and the van.
