Widow of Car Show Founder Seeks Answers in Fatal McLaren Crash
Attorney for James Wehr's widow points to unexplained water on roadway as potential cause for fiery accident.
The widow of James Wehr, founder of the popular South OC Cars and Coffee event, has hired an attorney to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death in a fiery McLaren crash. Emma Wehr’s lawyer, Corey Higgins of iAccidentLawyer, is focused on an unexplained pool of water on the roadway, which he claims created a hazardous condition and may be central to the ongoing investigation.
Video footage of the incident shows Wehr’s McLaren accelerating rapidly before hitting what appears to be a wet section of pavement. Dashcam footage from another vehicle captured the supercar’s brake lights illuminating before it swerved, struck a tree, and erupted in flames. The crash occurred on September 13 in Irvine, California, at the intersection of Culver Drive and Deerfield Avenue.
"The source of that water has yet to be identified, and our firm is actively investigating how that water came to be there, how long that condition had existed, and who may ultimately bear responsibility," Higgins stated in an Instagram video. He added that the firm is also examining the vehicle's crashworthiness and the performance of its safety systems.
Wehr died alongside Alexis “Lexi” Kramer, a 22-year-old Hooters model, in the accident. Kramer's family stated that she and Wehr had spent the weekend together, including attending Wehr’s car show, before the fatal crash. An hour before the incident, Wehr posted a photo on Instagram that appeared to show a police cruiser pulling him over in Newport Beach. According to a family member, Kramer had flown from Lakeland, Florida, to meet Wehr, who was reportedly in the process of separating from his wife.
