Whoopi Goldberg to Take Two-Week Break from "The View" for New Project

Whoopi Goldberg will be absent from "The View" for two weeks as she prepares to work on a new project.

Goldberg, who has been a co-host on the ABC talk show for nearly two decades, confirmed her upcoming departure on the "Behind the Table" podcast. "We’re going to lose you for a couple of days," producer Brian Teta said on the podcast. "You’re going to be gone over the next two weeks."

While Goldberg will be away, former co-hosts Lisa Ling, Star Jones, Sherri Shepherd, and Debbie Matenopoulos are scheduled to fill in for her on the show. Joy Behar will moderate the "Hot Topics" segment alongside the remaining Season 30 cast members: Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin.

The new project Goldberg will be working on is a film titled "Women Like Us." She described the movie as being "about change and getting older and having fun with your friends and people who get you." The film is produced by Barack and Michelle Obama and will also feature Vivica A. Fox, Vanessa Williams, and Jennifer Lewis.

Goldberg, 70, stated her determination to complete this project, noting, "I’m determined to do it because there are those who didn’t think I would." She added, "I do most of the things that I do because I know people are not waiting for me to fail, but they’re waiting for me to bail."

This is not the first time Goldberg has taken a leave of absence from "The View" to pursue other acting opportunities. She has previously stepped away to work on projects such as the Italian soap opera "Un Posto Al Sole" and the series "Anansi Boys."

In a previous interview on the "Baby, This Is Keke Palmer" podcast, Goldberg discussed how she has managed to balance her role on "The View" with other commitments, despite perceptions that she might not be able to. She explained that she remains open to other projects, stating, "If I need to go, I go."

Goldberg also alluded to her significant salary on "The View," reportedly in the mid-seven figures and the highest among the show's hosts. She commented on the amount, saying, "You would be shocked." She also noted that her acting gigs do not command the same compensation, adding, "If I had that kind of money — and I love my job — I don’t know that I’d still be doing [‘The View’]." She humorously attributed her continued participation to financial necessity, saying, "A girl’s gotta eat, and I never married well, so, I still have to support myself!"
