Whoopi Goldberg to Take Break From The View for Netflix Film
Goldberg will be away for two weeks filming 'Women Like Us', produced by the Obamas, with former co-hosts returning to fill in.
Whoopi Goldberg will be taking a break from her role on The View to film an upcoming Netflix movie.
Goldberg announced her hiatus during an episode of the talk show's podcast, "Behind the Table." Producer Brian Teta confirmed that Goldberg would be away for approximately two weeks, though she is expected to return on Mondays. During her absence, former co-hosts Lisa Ling, Star Jones, Sherri Shepherd, and Debbie Matenopoulos will fill in.
Goldberg's departure comes shortly after The View began its 30th season. The current cast includes Goldberg, Joy Behar, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, and Sunny Hostin. The season premiere on September 8 drew an average of 2.518 million viewers, marking the show's best premiere ratings in four years for female viewers aged 18 to 49, and its best in three years for women aged 25 to 54.
Earlier in the week, co-host Sara Haines was absent from the program. Behar cryptically stated Haines was not sick, while Goldberg alluded to her own potential return. Haines later revealed on air that her father-in-law had passed away, a loss she learned of shortly before the show. She described the situation as "brutal" and thanked her co-hosts for their support.
