Whoopi Goldberg is currently stranded in Italy after eruptions from Mount Etna disrupted flights, impacting the taping of the morning talk show "The View." The show returned on Monday with only three of its regular hosts, as co-host Joy Behar explained that a producer had "begged" her to come in due to absent castmates.

Goldberg, 70, appeared in a video message from Sicily, explaining her predicament. "Mount Etna, who is one of our active volcanoes here in Italy, decided to go off today," she stated. "We have spent most of the day trying to get back to the United States and all of the airports are closed here. So I will be back as soon as I can." She humorously added, "A volcano ate my homework!"

Co-host Ana Navarro was also unable to attend the taping due to weather in Miami, while Sara Haines had to address storm damage at her home. "Ana is stuck in Miami because of the weather," Behar explained. "Sara is dealing with storm damage."

The episode featured regular co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin, alongside guest co-host Michelle Buteau.

Mount Etna, the largest volcano in Europe, has been erupting for multiple days. On Sunday morning, the volcano ejected a significant cloud of ash, prompting authorities to issue a red alert for the surrounding area. This led to the disruption of flights at Catania Airport, a primary transport hub for the region. Incoming flights were suspended for safety reasons as the ash cloud's path was assessed. Italy's national carrier, ITA, cancelled flights to and from Catania until 2 p.m. local time on Monday, with some diverted to Palermo.
