Whoopi Goldberg has spoken about her substantial paycheck from the ABC talk show "The View," an apparent contrast to comments she made less than two years prior suggesting she could not afford to retire.

Goldberg, 70, joined "The View" in 2007. Reports from 2016 indicated her salary was between $5 million and $6 million annually. More recently, a source alleged that Goldberg is the highest-paid host on the series, with an estimated seven-figure salary, according to Page Six.

However, in an episode that aired shortly after the 2024 election, Goldberg described herself as a "working person" who would retire if she had the financial means. "If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, okay?" she said at the time, adding, "I'm a working person." She emphasized the need to support family members, stating, "My kid has to feed her family. My great-granddaughter has to be fed by her family. I know it's hard out there."

More recently, appearing on the podcast "Baby, This Is Keke Palmer," Goldberg discussed her "The View" compensation. "Listen, you would be shocked," she told Palmer. "And as soon as they showed you that check, you'd be like: 'What the f***?'" While she did not disclose specific figures, she remarked, "It is what it is."

Goldberg, an EGOT recipient, also indicated openness to other professional opportunities. "I constantly say to people: 'Yes, I'm still open for this.' And especially now, 'cause people say: 'Well, you're on The View, you can't do anything.' You know, if I need to go, I go. If I need to go,'" she stated.

When asked if "The View" was her highest-paying role, Goldberg responded, "No."

Goldberg currently co-hosts "The View" with Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sara Haines, and Ana Navarro. The show has seen some reported salary adjustments for hosts, though Goldberg's reported seven-figure income remains significant. Reports also suggested that a request for a substantial salary increase from co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin was denied, and that the show's wardrobe budget had been reduced.
