Whole Foods, Amazon Supplement Recalled Due to Salmonella Contamination

Vitality Works Inc. is recalling one lot of its 365 Whole Foods Market Standardized + Full Spectrum Blend Ashwagandha Capsules due to potential salmonella contamination. The supplement, which is marketed to help reduce stress and improve sleep, was sold at Whole Foods Market and on Amazon.

The affected lot is # 2025-26227, found in 120-count white plastic bottles with an expiration date of 10/13/2028, printed on the bottom of the bottle. The product was available for purchase nationwide from November 24, 2025, through October 20, 2026.

Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious illness, particularly in young children, older adults, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Infections can lead to dehydration, and in severe cases, can enter the bloodstream and spread to other parts of the body.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. The potential contamination was identified through routine sampling of a single retail unit, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Consumers who have the recalled product are advised not to consume it, to discard it, and not to return it to the store. Refunds are available at any Whole Foods Market location.

Ashwagandha is an herb used in traditional medicine, with some research suggesting it may help with stress, anxiety, and sleep quality. Salmonella can contaminate herbs and spices during harvesting or processing and can survive for extended periods.

This recall is one of several food safety recalls that have occurred recently. In August, jalapeños and fresh produce from Sinaloa led to recalls of various products. In July, over 1.5 million packages of eggs were recalled, and earlier this year, a super green supplement was recalled for possible salmonella contamination.
